Media Card Tips

Media card corruptions are real, so do everything you can to mitigate potential losses.

If your camera supports multiple cards, use it. Ensure that your camera is set to record to both cards simultaneously.

Always format your cards with your camera’s format function. Format new cards, format cards that you get from a primary shooter if you’re a second shooter, format your cards after you offload your images & format your cards before an important shoot. This will help reduce potential corruptions and help identify cards that are failing.

Don’t wait until your card is full to swap it out for a fresh one. If you end up having a card corruption, you won’t lose all of the images from the shoot if the shoot is spread across multiple cards.

If you’re working with a second shooter, instruct them to format any cards you give them for the day in their camera.

If you have a computer with you on your shoot, offload your images throughout the shoot and verify their integrity. This will ensure that your images are intact and allow you time to recreate anything that may have been corrupted.
